Acord was founded in 1991 with the mission of empowering individuals and families to feed themselves in a nutritionally balanced way. We are a nondenominational, green, grassroots organization staffed by more than 100 volunteers and supporting almost 4,000 client visits each year.
Clients are allowed to shop once per week on any of the three days we’re open and may choose from the variety of items we offer. Our bags include fresh dairy, eggs, meat, fish, fresh produce, and shelf stable items.
Our programs include:
School Lunch Program. Acord provides families with children additional support during school vacation weeks, including the summer months.
- Holiday Meal Program. Acord provides all clients additional items during the holidays enabling our families to prepare their own holiday meals.
- Farm to Table. Acord partners with Hamilton-Wenham Grow-A-Row, Three Sisters Garden Project, The Food Project, Green Meadows Farm & the Trustees of the Reservations, Appleton Farms. Through these partnerships we are able to provide a variety of fresh, nutritious fruits and vegetables to our clients; as well as recipes and education regarding preparation and storage. During the winter months, Acord purchases fresh produce to distribute to our clients.
- Emergency Meals. Acord provides food assistance to families in crisis in the Hamilton – Wenham communities.
- Acord is a partner of the Greater Boston Food Bank, North Shore United Way and a member of the North Shore Hunger Network.
